From cream to camel, tan to taupe, biscuit to oatmeal, 50 shades of beige is the colour palette of the season!
I’m actually utterly obsessed with the comforting, understated tones. Maybe creamy hues and off-whites aren’t fun, but blimey they are chic, classic and also packed with timeless appeal.
I’ve been investing in pieces that can be worn on their own, as well as layered together. And you know what, ‘boring’ never looked so cool! Dinner date with my husband, drinks with the girls, last minute invite somewhere fancy, honestly it hasn’t failed me once! Love that!
Below, are some of my fave styling tips that I am sticking to at the moment.
MIX NEUTRALS
One of my favourite ways to wear beige is by mixing it up with other neutrals. I love how sharp and crisp it looks when juxtaposed with cream, white, camel, or similar caramel colours. These boots and this coat would complement a snowy sweater dress perfectly.
Neutrals aside, you can always bring in some contrast through bold coloured accessories such as red boots and a bag.
PLAY WITH TEXTURES AND FABRICS
Add dimension by mixing contrasting textures like cashmere, pearls, faux fur, and luxe leather separates. Playing with diverse fabrics and textures keep the look from looking plain.
One of the biggest winter trends I’m coveting at the moment are fur detailed outwear like this Fashion Union Hybrid Coat (sold out, similar here).
What I like about fur detailed pieces is that they can be worn with anything. They look glamorous yet casual and cool under all circumstances. They’re perfect for keeping you warm and cosy, just like your favourite blanket.
Designers are also going all crazy about pearls this season playing with their size and shape and also their location. Trendy and glamorous, this co-ord was love at first sight and I just keep looking for occasions to wear it.
ADD VOLUME
Exaggerated silhouettes such as puff sleeves, slouchy trousers, and voluminous dresses add a refreshingly cool touch to an all-neutral outfit.
GOLD JEWELLERY
The easiest way to test drive any trend? With some well-chosen accessories. Earthy colours and natural textures really pop against gold jewellery. A little sparkle will make your beige outfit stand out.
EXPERIMENT WITH LENGTH
A long coat paired with a midi-length skirt or culottes looks seriously luxe.
DETAILING
It’s all in the details. Look for neutral pieces with interesting details such as faux fur, ruffles, pockets, bows, and belts.
MONOCHROMATIC MAKE UP
Matching makeup trends have come, and gone, in many variations. There’s matching your lipstick to your nail polish, coordinating your eye shadow or lip colour to your outfit, and, perhaps the most on-trend right now, monochromatic makeup.
While the name might indicate a bare face, the Instagram-catapulted nude makeup trend features neutral makeup tones (think: colours in the beige, tan and light brown family, sometimes with peachy accents) for the face, eyes and lips.
However, there’s no need to limit yourself to a monochromatic makeup look, feel free to mix a nude lip with a bold eye or a naked eye look with a bold lip.
