“Life is a party. Dress for it.” Audrey Hepburn
Content
From sat down meals to wild nights out, parties are a huge part of our culture, bringing people together in celebration.
I’ve always enjoyed hosting parties at home and rounding up people, food, and drinks for the evening full of fun and laugh.
My ultimate goals have always been to (i) make sure that my guests are having fun and (ii) keep them talking about the party for days, weeks and even months to come! And what would be a better way to ensure the success than having a fun theme – be it retro gaming, cheesy pop, or masquerade – the theme can bring a unique energy to any party.
I’ve always been mesmerized by the 80s with its vibrant eye-catching costumes, colorful cocktails and lively music. The era of Madonna, Prince and Whitney is a fab throwback that everyone can get involved in with minimal effort.
And here is how to throw an epic party in the 80s style!
Plan your outfit
The ’80s was an explosion of bright popping colours as the fashion scene ventured into new areas of outrageous like all metallic disco ball outfits!
More specifically this was the era of loud legwarmers, vibrant tracksuits and fluorescent headbands!
Here are my favourite websites to shop on budget.

Set the Mood
The right decorations, candles and lights always elevate the party mood.
Transforming a place is a key whether it’s a studio apartment or a few bed house. I like to make sure that everywhere my guests look, there is something that catches their eye. Fresh flowers, twinkling candles, garlands, confetti, a pretty tablecloth, banners, balloons, colorful throw pillows and blankets are all awesome ideas.
I love shopping for decorations and I can easily spend a few good weeks or even months planning, researching and ordering bits and bobs for a party.
I find Amazon a great source of ideas. There is so much to browse plus the next day or even the same day delivery has come handy more than just a few times.
Where to buy decorations
• Garlands – can be re-used at pretty much any party. They are vibrant and create and awesome party ambience.
• Neon Balloons – never too many. Balloon glue sticky dots tape is perfect to build balloons garlands.
• Confetti – spread the happiness
• Foil Swirl Decorations
• Foil 80’s Banner
• Neon Party Supplies
• Party Tableware set
• Inflatable Retro Boom Box & Mobile Phone Blow up
• Disco Fever Dancers Backdrop
• Disco Small Multicolour Lights
• Multi Colour Disco LED Light
• Foil Curtain
• 6 Small Mirror Disco Balls
Plan your Bar
For some people, alcohol is not a necessary element of a fun party – I am not one of those people.
I have attended a few parties where I really struggled to find myself a drink that I actually like. I quickly realized how important is to ensure that there is something for someone without assuming that everyone drinks beer or Prosecco.
Of course, you don’t want to play bartender all night unless you really like it. If you can make a cocktail in a big batch before the party like a pitcher of margaritas or a punch bowl of sangria.
Other options are to set up a bar and let guests make their own drinks, or simply offer beer and wine.
Our home’s bar is quite impressive especially that I like experimenting and learning different cocktails. This also come handy when comes to parties as we can offer a variety of drinks and cater for pretty much everyone likes.
TIP: Setting up a few alcohol ‘bars’ with all the ingredients in one place and also cocktail recipe books is a fab idea and it helps to make delicious drinks within just a few minutes.
Where to buy bar suppliers
I find Amazon a great source of party suppliers, all in one place and at the click of the finger.
• Party themed napkins

Music & Dance
Without music, a party can feel like a meeting, so turn up the tunes and set the mood with a lively playlist.
A mix of current hits with some classic throwback tunes makes for a great party playlist. I tend to play music that matches the theme of my party like a bit of Madonna or Whitney Houston for the 80s.
And there comes the dancing! Depending on how many guests we have I sometimes set up a dance floor which has never failed.
TIP: Adding a disco ball, tones of balloons, neon tapes plus some UV lights are perfect to recreate the 80s disco fever!

Keep your guests busy with games
There is no great party without a few games. Games give that amazing ability to bring everyone together and inject a lot of energy into the party.
They don’t have to be cheesy, but adding an element of competition to your soirée will liven things up.
We have a football table at home which usually becomes the centre of attention after a few drinks. It’s also a great way to wake everyone up after they have had some food.
The darts board can be a fab source of fun for everyone trying to keep throws on target after a few cocktails.
And who doesn’t like to play beer pong?! We always make a lot jelly shots mixed with different spirits including vodka and tequila. This game never failed to boost up the party mood.
Trivia and charades are classic, timeless party games—they never get old, because they are fun! Other ideas: croquet, Mexican Train and karaoke.
Groupon / Amazon have a lot of great deals on party games.
