“The best is yet to come.” Frank Sinatra
In just a few days, we will be celebrating the end of the dreadful 2020 all across the world. I am super excited at the thought of welcoming a new year, new hopes and dreams.
Although 2020 is finally coming to a close, it’s more important than ever to continue being vigilant about COVID-19 safety practices like social distancing, wearing face masks, and limiting person to person contact as much as possible.
This means that you should definitely include the staying at home option in your New Year’s Eve plans. But that doesn’t mean your plans have to be boring!
There are so many fun and creative ways to mark the end of 2020 at home. Scroll ahead for easy ways to inject some energy into your NYE at home.
DRESS UP
New Year’s Eve is all about celebrating your accomplishments and putting your best foot forward for the start of the new year, which invariably means you need to dress the part!
Who said you can’t dress up just to sit on the couch? If you typically pull out your best outfit for NYE, there’s no need to change that tradition this year.
Sparkles
What’s a NYE look without some sparkle? Sequins, beading and fringes are all fit for this occasion, no matter which silhouette you end up choosing.
One sleeve bow shoulder sequin midi dress in gold
Swarovski earrings (similar)
Tulle
My second favourite contender will have to be a tulle look – confident, bold, and classy all at once. There are plenty of ways to balance out the potentially revealing fabric into a slightly more demure look. I love layered skirts, dresses and sleeves that create a voluminous effect – which also decreases the transparent look.
Also with textures like chiffon, lace, organza, and tulle, sheer pieces also have the power to make an outfit look super expensive.
Complete the look with strappy heels and a trendy bag. Finishing touch, jewellery of course!

FESTIVE COCKTAILS
Your NYE celebration is only as good as the drink you choose to toast with at midnight, so it’s only right you make something really special for the occasion.
This Amalfi Royale is a good place to start!
3 drops cardamom bitter
20 ml Beefeater
30ml Staibano Lemon Cream
10 ml lemon juice
5 ml sugar syrup
Top up with Prosecco or Champagne
• SHAKE: Put all the ingredients, plus ice, into a shaker and wake the drink to life! That will also improve the frothy foam on top of your final drink.
• STRAIN: Make sure to pour the drink brisk and swift from your shaker into a pre-chilled champagne glass. Top up with Prosecco or Champagne.
• GARNISH: thyme and lavender (optional).
YUMMY NIBBLES
Since you’ll be staying awake through midnight, you’ll want enough snacks and bites to graze on for the entire night.
All supermarkets sell an incredible amount of party food that can be conveniently delivered to your door.
How about a charcuterie board? I especially love this as I can nibble for hours without worrying about my food going cold.
THEMED EVENING
Vibrant eye-catching costumes, colourful cocktails, lively music, delicious food and let’s not forget the most important ingredient…your fabulous fun hungry family!
You can do it all at home without the need to rely on other venues to organise this for you! All it takes is a little effort … and we’ve all definitely got plenty of time on our hands at the moment after all! My two favourite themes, Gatsby and Mexican Fiesta!
If you don’t have decorations and you don’t want to spend money on buying them, enlist your family to create some. It’s such a great opportunity to explore your creativity skills whilst having fun. It’s also a great way to have a fabulous date night with your partner.
GAMES
From karaoke night, dance contests, trivia questions, Virtual Reality (VR) to darts, foosball and many more! The choice is endless!
Playing is not simply for fun, it is an activity that keeps us healthy without giving us the time to realise its value.
I personally love playing foosball, so much so that I have treated myself to a foosball table! I still need to work on my dart throwing skills though …
Since this year we are staying at home rather than heading out up for the annual NYE Ball, I have arranged quite a few games for my family.
I’ve also organised a contest with some interesting prizes to win and this always gets my husband’s competitive side out!
VIP CINEMA NIGHT IN
I never get tired of cinemas and fine dining but how about the two combined at home?!
Put your cooking skills into work, pre-select a list of films and just make yourself cosy!
VIRTUAL TOAST
Despite the challenges in 2020, it’s important to acknowledge all of the good parts of the year. Plan a time to call up your friends and family so you can all raise a virtual toast to getting through such a difficult year.
I can’t decide which dress is my favorite because you look gorgeous in all of them. i hope so that you have amazing New Year Eve.

What fun statement outfits even if you have nowhere to wear them too! 🙂
While we are able to have parties and gatherings again I’ll be at home asleep by midnight as usual, haha! The kids make it hard to stay up much later! 🙂

It has been a hard year but there are lots of fun things that can be done and enjoyed at home. I love exploring different activities as before I never had time to ever enjoy time at home. I was always busy and out and about, so in a way it’s good to have an opportunity to experience a different lifestyle and re-evaluate the way of living. Happy 2021 xx
