It’s no secret that I love Fall and Winter, mainly because of the Halloween and Christmas celebrations…and that I can (and I do) go totally crazy decorating our house.
While it may seem like we’re still getting through the thick of the warmer weather, it’s never too early to start thinking about the fall and winter trends you want to build up your wardrobe with. From velvet the fabric’s natural richness that makes strong statement for the cooler months to dark florals, these are the must-have pieces you should be shopping now for the upcoming season.
Here are my favorite picks that will be trending this Fall and Winter 2017.
Moody, dark and romantic florals
Florals so very popular this Summer 2017 are the most seamless transition between seasonal wardrobes. Burnt oranges, burgundies, blues and browns are the colours to wear this Fall/Winter 2017. Guys I’m not joking but it’s going to be window (and couch) dressing, taken literally
Tweed jackets and dresses
Tweed until now, implied you own a country house, enjoy shooting animals at weekends, or want to look like Guy Ritchie. Not that many people fit into these categories, (notably few into the last). Not anymore, Fall/Winter 2017 have fallen into the hands of a new fold of designers who have made this fustiest of fabrics cool and much wanted this Fall/Winter 2017.
Velvet, a feminine idea of romance
Velvet with its softness and gleaming finish, we were in love with last season, is officially making its grand return. Tailored suits, swinging dresses, and grandiose skirts.
Get ready to get suited – tailored suits and deconstruction
A suit has never felt more of a desirable option, soft and slouchy or trim and tailored. The twisted shirting trend that dominated last season is still going strong for fall, with sliced-and-diced pieces ruling the runway.
Fall/Winter 2017 featuring deconstructed blazers, perfectly tailored trousers, and plenty of gray stripes, these will make you reconsider the business friendly suit for after-hours this autumn. Guys how would you feel about removing one or even two sleeves from your traditional suit for a modern reimagination of the power suit? I’m still making my mind up…
Tonal Time
Fall/Winter 2017 is time to brush up on colour coordination technique, championing top-to-toe tonal dressing for all. The key to getting it right, it seems, is to offset with one accessory in a contrasting hue.
Lace-up details are on their way out this year, and we finally know why: buttons. Industry favorites like Rosie Assoulin, Sies Marjan, and more are doing choose-your-own-adventure slits with buttons down the side of skirts and pants
Wide Belts
Wide waist belts are making their comeback this season, and in all the right proportions. Namely that they belong anywhere but looped into your jeans and that they’d rather not be hidden by your coat.

For me fall is all about knitwear and oversized cardigans! Love them so so much. Just bought a new one last week with the much trendy flower embroidery to be up to date lol. (the fact that I shouldn’t have cause I can’t really afford it at the moment, won’t even mention lol).
Love those Plum coloured trousers and also the check skirt. Some lovely items here.

Some great trends for sure. I’m especially loving velvet! I have my eye on a good number of velvet pieces now. Living in Florida, I’m not able to transition to many fall/winter fabrics for quite some time, so first I go for more fall-like colors. BTW really love that first floral dress you’re wearing looks so great. PS. Hoping that is faux fur in your feature photo!
