Winter coats are the sartorial foundation of our seasonal wardrobe so searching for the perfect one can be not only a tricky but also a time consuming task especially when there are so many different styles to choose from. Each time when Autumn rolls around new trends keep popping out like mushrooms but let’s not forget about those timeless designs that remain on trend winter after winter. While all those new trends are all wonderful outerwear styles that keep you snug inside out, nothing feels quite as seasonless as the camel coat. If you don’t already own this style icon then it’s time to invest pronto. Keep things classic with a cream or beige colourway and it will be a key part of your winter wardrobe for years to come… Trust me!
As tempting as it can be to revert to wearing fifty shades of black come the fall and wintertime, I highly encourage you all to step out of your comfort zone this season. I love adding brighter colours in colder months because they make everything feel a little more fresh and because they are so easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe!
Whatever the style you’re after, investment is key when shopping for winter coats. After all, there aren’t many other items in our wardrobes that we end up re-wearing pretty much every day for months on end so spending that little extra is not only worth it but totally justified.
I’ve learned the importance of having classic coats since here in London we’re in winter outerwear a good few months out of the year. To me, a classic winter coat is one that is neutral, midi or long, and tailored while a statement piece is something oversized, textured, and cuddly like a teddy coat. Whatever outerwear piece it is, I’m always grateful for nice crisp weather (but not as much for freezing temperatures).
My favourite combination to go this season is orange and tan mixed with a bit of rust and brown. What a powerful combo this one is! Makes me think of spiced pumpkin lattes and cinnamon brioche buns. These are true autumn shades that are so fitting for this time of year. Fall/Winter runways were all about mixing warm orangey rusts with deeper oaks and chocolates. Oh, hello Halloween!

You can make a statement by opting to wear a single beige-coloured outfit or if you feel like going for a slightly more playful look combine several Autumn – coloured pieces like I have. If you’re not quite ready to commit to the head-to-toe colour, wear it with classic black to dress a beige/came shade down a bit.
