DEALING WITH STRESSFUL TIMES | THINGS TO DO AT HOME

“I have many problems in my life. But my lips don’t know that. They just keep smiling.” Charlie Chaplin

Put the kettle on – I’ve got plenty to catch up about. I’ve been busy putting together more ideas to help make the best of being at home.

SLOW DOWN

Now it’s time to slow down! Stop continuously inventing/re-inventing activities to keep you occupied and trying to link up with everyone you know!

Easier said than done, right? But it’s a worthwhile goal, because when we slow down, we create some space in our minds and our souls for happiness. This could be finding a new passion, reading a book, embracing our inner silence, or even seeing something we’d normally take for granted in a brand-new light.

CONNECT WITH YOURSELF

Yes, connect with yourself and not everyone in your family and all your friends. Such a foreign concept to a lot of us stuck at home and moaning that we miss everyone so much and can’t socialise. Are you really that boring that you need to speak to someone all day long to keep yourself busy?

Try to connect with your own personality and even your inner child by doing simple things like meditating or maybe re-watching old films associated with warm old memories. This actually helps both sides of your brain to slow down, and it has vast emotional benefits as well.

DAILY ROUTINE

In these challenging times, your daily routines are key to staying grounded, productive and keeping anxiety at bay. Build a routine and stick to it. When you incorporate daily routines into your life, it benefits you in so many different ways.

Having a structured day adds some much-needed stability both on a physical and emotional level, and will help the time pass more constructively. It has the power to ground you and slow down the desire of a busy pace of your life.

SLEEP ROUTINE

I know, it’s tempting to stay up late watching TV with a glass of wine, especially now when we are at home. Sleep affects nearly everything about us: from our physical health to our decision-making ability. Say no to late nights and start your routine by going to bed at the same time each night.

SOULFUL SKINCARE REGIMEN

With most of us now of course being at home, our skin faces a particular set of challenges. Our general stillness, central heating, not hydrating as we would in our usual routines all lead to skin becoming dry & dull.

This kind of daily self-care does wonders for your emotional and physical well-being. I’m still establishing my beauty routine, now when I have more time for this and don’t need to rush around. I will share this with you soon so keep an eye on upcoming posts.

DECLUTTER

Take half an hour each lunch/evening to declutter/clean your living space. When you tidy up your environment, you’re also tidying up your headspace before bed. I absolutely love it and I have been doing little bits and bobs every day!

ADD MUSIC

Make music part of your daily routine. I quite like playing soothing SPA music as I’m working at home. It helps me to relax and keeps me calm for the day.

PASSIONS

Explore a new hobby that you’ve never had time for. Always wanted to learn a language? Set aside a ½ hour each day and dive in. Interested in wines? Take an online masterclass at your own speed.

Such great suggestions. Thank you for sharing. In this challenging times we need to focus on the positive so that we can use our energy to weather this storm. My hubby and I have been listening to our old music cds. It’s been comforting. Take care.

learning to slow down has really been a challenge but after a month of this I think that I’ve finally settled into a routine. It’s been nice to take the time to read again.

Thanks Amy. Since I love being at home I do use the opportunity to get fitter and healthier and to explore my passions and hobbies. Something I never had time for before, because of long hours in the office and 3 hours train travel every day. How about yourself? xx

Great post! I like how you mention connecting with oneself. As an introvert I feel forced to be social, it is nice to hear a positive note on working on oneself.

These are good tips! We are still trying to figure out a routine here – as I said to my mum on the phone yesterday I never know if something will work to keep the boys entertained for 30 minutes or just 5, haha! it makes planning my work from home days while also teaching and entertaining them very tricky, so we have no set routine yet!

Hope that you are having a good week 🙂

I have to control my sleep routine, especially recently I can’t sleep due to all these coronavirus facts.
Great tips and these pictures are gorgeous!

Many great tips here! And yes connecting with you inner child. I am reading an autobiography by Julie Andrews and she and talks about making Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music and I thought of these movies and how much I like them and the magic of them that I felt as a child.

Very lovely tips! A daily routine is key for me, I’m still getting up early in the morning to manage working from home, homeschooling the kids and do the household. I love a good pamper as well, an at home spa or DIY masks have become my favourites.
