“Being well dressed hasn’t much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense.” Oscar de la Renta
I feel like I have been waiting for this moment all year long, days are finally getting warmer! There’s so much to look forward and if you guys follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve already caught a hold of my first bright spring vibes, which I want to pass along to you too!
SS19 it’s predominantly all about relaxed elegance with earth tones coming back in simple, demure silhouettes like tan, cream, oatmeal, biscuit, blush pink and off-white. It’s time to lighten up your wardrobe with one of the chicest hues a girl can wear.
Probably the easiest colours to have on your radar is beige – and ALL shades of it to be exact. Anything in the realms of camel, tan, honey, and brown will be major this season. Though I admit that it’s been strange for me to see something so subtle on the rise, I’m actually utterly obsessed with the comforting, understated tones. Maybe creamy hues and off-whites aren’t fun, but blimey they are chic, classic, trending now but also packed with timeless appeal.
Beige works with everything: sportswear makes it fresh, a midi-length dress acts on its chic appeal, and a smart blazer is a refreshing alternative for those of us who just always wear black.
Are we all aboard the beige train this SS19? For those who are, how do you like wearing it? I try to keep consistency with the palette, and stick to beautiful tailoring. I’ve been investing in pieces that can be worn on their own, as well as layered together. And you know what, ‘boring’ never looked so cool! Dinner date with my husband, drinks with the girls, last minute invite somewhere fancy, honestly it hasn’t failed me once! Love that! Below, are some of my fave styling tips that I am sticking to at the moment.
HEAD-TO-TOE-STYLE
My fave styling this season. Ideal for when you need to look good in a flash, tonal dressing is the kind of no-brainer styling trick that you need on a Monday morning.
I love to mix and match beige shades, and gold accessories are also a great stylish addition to any tonal look.
COLOUR POP
If an all-beige outfit doesn’t suit your style, you can also use the shade to tone down the drama of colourful brights.
Loving bold statement colours? Temper the drama of SS19 neon trend by adding beige accents into the mix. It might sound like an unlikely combination, but offsetting a bubblegum pink sweater with a beige jacket will make it infinitely more wearable. It also brings together two of this season’s biggest trends!
EXPERIMENT WITH PATTERNS
You don’t have to wear this tonal trend plain, mix and match your shades, contrast fabric textures and experiment with different patterns.
MONOCHROMATIC MAKE UP
Matching makeup trends have come, and gone, in many variations. There’s matching your lipstick to your nail polish, coordinating your eye shadow or lip colour to your outfit, and, perhaps the most on-trend right now, monochromatic makeup.
While the name might indicate a bare face, the Instagram-catapulted nude makeup trend features neutral makeup tones (think: colours in the beige, tan and light brown family, sometimes with peachy accents) for the face, eyes and lips.
Perfect for all skin tones, nude makeup differs from no-makeup makeup in that it incorporates multiple different finishes in the same neutral family to add dimension to your face. Look for pale beige colours for lighter skin tones and tans and browns for darker skin tones. The key is to find a colour family that pairs well with your skin.
However, there’s no need to limit yourself to a monochromatic makeup look, feel free to mix a nude lip with a bold eye or a naked eye look with a bold lip.
Not sure where to start? Simply dump out all your makeup on a flat surface and make pairs or trios.
ACCESSORIZE
The easiest way to test drive any trend? With some well-chosen accessories. Earthy colours and natural textures really pop against bright white, but also look great with pastels and darker neutrals.
