As the search for that New Year’s Eve outfit begins, more and more fashionistas are looking back to the 1970s glitter, sequins and shine dominating trends this season.
New Year’s Eve is the night to go all-out and wear your chicest look. And what better way to ring in the New Year than in the most shimmery statement piece in your wardrobe. It’s time to get the heels back out and give in to the pull of sequins and glitter.

Sequins aren’t for everyone, but there really is an option to suit all personalities out there. If you’re feeling OTT, go for a slip dress completely covered in sequins. If you are still unsure about this whole sparkly shebang, then pick a floaty number with a few scattered pearls on the bodice and skirt.
Nothing makes a statement like a sequined dress. Bright, eye-catching, and sparkly, you’ll have all eyes on you in this ensemble. However, it’s important to select and style your sequined dress so that you are getting attention for the right reasons.
As the queen of anything that sparkles I have put together a few tips that I hope you will find useful in the run up to New Year Eve.
FIT
Stating the obvious but a sequined dress must fit your frame. All eyes are going to be on you and you want to make sure your dress is doing you favours! You don’t want bulging sequins to add an unwanted volume to your silhouette. Where you may be able to get away with a little black dress that bunches up a bit in the front or hangs a little off of your backside, a sequined dress should fit like it was made for you.
PAIRING
Pair your sequined dress with solid colours. You don’t want to look OTT matching sparkle with sparkle. Skip a bedazzled jacket or shimmery tights and swap these for black options. A sequined dress does all the talking, and the rest of your outfit should complement it.
JEWELLERY
This is the best part about sequinned dresses, you don’t have to worry about jewellery. Skip the necklaces, bracelets, or any other sort of jewellery. My only exception are earrings, any additional sparkle will be overpowering and make your outfit look busy.
MAKE UP
A neutral palette beautifully enhances features without looking like a Vegas showgirl. Tan, brown, grey, or black eye shadow with a nude or soft pink lipstick will do the trick without overwhelming the outfit. I personally also love adding a bit of gloss on my lips to get a little bit of shine to brighten up my face and add a bit of festivity to my face.
