“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” Thomas Jefferson
There are really only two ways I can come out of this self-quarantine: super-ripped or in dire need of a diet. Guess what, no excuses, I’m definitely coming out ripped!
As the COVID-19 outbreak leaves all of us in lockdown at homes with all nonessential businesses closed, many of us are left without access to our usual gyms, workout studios and even parks.
Switching to a home workout routine isn’t easy but staying healthy and in shape while quarantined is totally doable. Yes, it takes some space and a lot of intrinsic motivation but what excuses are you going to make up now? Before my WFH routine I used to be too tired because of long hours at work and also, I didn’t have much free time.
You can imagine how hard is to work out in the evenings after work and 3 hours commuting a day! It was quite hard not to only remain motivated but also to find any leftover energy. Now, I’m at home, I get more sleep, I have more free time and I’ve decided to convert these luxuries into a fitness regime rather than an opportunity to just lie on the sofa watching TV.
In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, many fitness experts, gyms, apps and studios are doing their part to help us stay in shape. I believe that establishing a workout routine as part of your daily routine, can help to ease anxiety related to coping with the pandemic.
Even if you have a small space, no equipment or very little time, there are many great options to help you exercise during quarantine. You don’t need to spend hours working out to get fit.
Surely everyone can find a spare 15-30 minutes a day/every other day – of course if you are serious about getting fit and not just talking about it and hoping for a miracle to happen.
HOME WORKOUTS
There are tonnes of instructor-led video workouts available! Live or pre-recorded videos are typically 25-45 minutes and often require little to no fitness equipment. Some videos require a subscription or membership, but many providers are offering them for free or as an extended trial while the outbreak leaves us stuck at home. Just choose whatever meets your needs.
You might think your options are limited if you don’t have a whole rack of equipment at your disposal, but that’s definitely not the case. Let’s leave this excuse behind now. You can use bodyweight exercises to work nearly every muscle in your body.
I don’t like spending too much time working out therefore my workout is usually 25-30 minutes high intensity interval training.
Here’s a list of some of my favourite Shaun T at-home workout pre-recorded videos that have changed my life and my body over the last few years.
INSANITY MAX:30™ Intermediate/Advanced. Currently available on The Beachbody On Demand Membership. From cardio challenge, Ab attack to tabata. This is the one I’ve chosen to challenge my body. The base kit comes with a workout calendar that does help to stick to the routine.

BEACHBODY ON DEMAND
Definitely idea worth exploring with over 1,200 Workouts… Unlimited Ways to Reach Your Goals!
Basic workout equipment worth investing under £100
Dumbbells
Weights are pretty much a must-have for a home workout routine and they do not cost a lot. I usually get my dumbells from FitnessSuperstore.
Workout mat (or yoga mat)
There are many types of mats out there and the one you choose will depend on your primary form of exercise, as well as the floor you’re working with.
Medicine Ball
Great for functional training sessions at home.
ZUMBA – BRING FITNESS PARTY INTO YOUR LIVING ROOM
Zumba is a high energy, cardio-blasting workout and everyone can do it no matter your fitness level, age, or dance ability.
I didn’t do that much Zumba in the past but since I do love dancing, I’ve decided to explore it more during the lockdown. It’s super easy and wow it does make you sweat before you even know it! Plus, it’s so much fun and it doesn’t even feel like a workout.
I’m just using our Wii but if you don’t have one there are plenty of Zumba live or pre-recorded instructor-led videos to choose from.
I do recommend the Zumba 2 I’ve been dancing to, available for Wii and XBOX 360. It comes with a belt which acts like a progress tracker, including: calories burned, trophies earned, overall rank, technique score based on how many moves matched overall.
The game offers a number of different dance styles: reggaeton, merengue, salsa, cumbia, hip hop, mambo, rumba, flamenco and calypso as well as Indian, Latin pop, bellydance and pasodoble. 5 stunning, dynamic environments, from a Miami Yacht to a LA nightclub.
Zumba Party option allows up to 4 players to join the party in your living room – so get your whole family involved!
How are you stepping up your fitness at this time?

It’s fun you’ve found things that work for you to exercise at home! With my knee injury I can’t do any exercise, but I never really exercised much before, haha! I try go out a walk with the boys when I feel up to it, and they have been loving the cosmic kids yoga on youtube. I haven’t been able to join in all the moves I used to though with my knee 🙁
Hope you are having a great week 🙂

yeh you definitely have to recover first. My workout has always been home based since my work hours and travel are too long to squeeze in gym in the city. Having gym at home definitely saves time and adds flexibility xx
