“Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what’s for lunch.” Orson Welles
Though I’ve been to Gaucho restaurants many times before, somehow every visit is unique and Gaucho never fails to impress me in a new and amazing way.
The very first Gaucho restaurant opened in London in 1994 in an area that was considered to be ‘off the beaten track’ on Swallow Street – and is now home to the flagship restaurant, Piccadilly (I’m yet to visit this one). I have visited a few of the 12 London restaurants, including the one in Canary Wharf (you can read about my experience here) and I can’t seem to get enough of their world class service, finest traditional Argentine beef and an unusual Latin wine list – all set in a casual setting.
My newest favourite, Gaucho Broadgate is one of London’s hidden gems, situated where two of London’s most dynamic neighbourhoods meet; the financial hub of the Square Mile and the trendsetting East End.
The restaurant is one of the very few places where I can truly unwind, and forget the hustle and bustle of work, even if it is just for a lunch hour. It’s a perfect place for a speedy set lunch (I do recommend!) or a long languorous steak dinner in the elegant restaurant downstairs.
FOOD AND DRINKS
As I am sure you already know, I’m a huge foodie, and I love trying and discovering new and memorable dining experiences. You can most definitely find it in Gaucho.
I’ve had both, lunch and dinner in the Gaucho Broadgate and loved everything to the very last bite. As far as lunch is concerned, I definitely recommend trying their set menu that will definitely save you a few pennies.
So many delicious dinner options, and there is definitely something for everyone there. My highlights include lean and tender Lomo fillet with a number of sides. Just delicious!
Every time I go back I especially enjoy Gaucho’s display of steaks. I’m not a connoisseur and I still have a lot to learn about steaks but this definitely helps me to make a choice!
DECOR
Besides the food and drinks, the ambience of the place is just everything!
I’m one of those people that enjoy the ambience of the place as much as the food or drinks. The Gaucho with its designer dark polished wood furnishings and cowhide fabrics creates a lavish backdrop for Argentine food and wine.
It brings a continental feel to London’s financial centre, reflecting the modern Gaucho and a more modern Argentina.
