“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years”. Abraham Lincoln
After what seemed like a never-ending winter season, summer is welcomed with open arms. I always look forward to the time when the air gets warmer, people are in happier spirits, and everything around me is in full blossom. Typically this is the time when I start planning my weekend staycations.
There are so many breath-taking countryside locations in the UK that choosing one can be a challenge in itself. My latest staycation didn’t disappoint me. Set on the borders of Sussex and Surrey, surrounded by 120 acres of countryside estate and perfectly maintained gardens, the five-star luxurious in every aspect Alexander House hotel was a fantastic choice for the first staycation of the year.
This is a hotel with history. The Alexander House Hotel property dates back to the 17th century. One stone that now stands proud in the luxurious 1608 Champagne Bar dates all the way back to 1608!
The house is famous for its connections to poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and the former Governor of the Bank of England who purchased the estate in 1909. The property was bought by its current owners in 2006 and it went through an 18-month redecoration process transforming Alexander House into the elegant, luxurious hotel it is today.
In 2012, AA awarded the hotel with a 5 star status, making Alexander House Hotel & Utopia Spa one of the highest rated hotels outside of London.
At Alexander House Hotel & Utopia Spa, too much is never enough. From chocolate dipped strawberries to rose petals and candles that really set the mood, all you need to do is ask!

ACCOMMODATION
The hotel has some amazing rooms and suites. Each room is individually designed, think modern finishes, classic charm and a sense of warmth, some with great outdoor terraces.
The Cedar Lodge Suites, completed in 2015, spread from 52 square meters to a full duplex suite. Surrounded by manicured gardens, each suite with its own south-facing private balcony or terrace, which is perfect for enjoying an al fresco breakfast in the sunshine during the summer months.
We stayed at the private two-bedroom luxury suite in the Gatehouse, a fully serviced luxury apartment that can sleep up to four guests. The Gatehouse sits at the edge of our 120 acre estate, offering total privacy and the perfect destination for a group getaway.
