If you’re looking for a super relaxing getaway in Crete, the Sea Side Resort and Spa in Agia Pelagia is definitely worth checking out.

To say that the property is beautiful is to say nothing at all. The grounds are absolutely magnificent, as is the location. The Sea Side Resort and Spa sits at the top of a hill and features breathtaking coastal views and upscale dining.

But most importantly, it has a certain laid-back luxury vibe that you feel the moment you arrive, which is perhaps why we enjoyed our time at the resort so much.

Combine the utterly relaxed and calm feeling with the lush green landscape, striking rocky cliffs and you get one of the most beautiful resorts in Crete.

Unique Location & Views

It’s sea front, situated at the top of a hill in Mononaftis bay in the quiet area of Agia Pelagia so the coastal views are absolutely amazing.

Tip

If you are fond of walking, you are certain to enjoy the additional panoramic splendor just 2 minutes walk away from the main gate.

Below are just a few of my captured memories but the view is even more spectacular in real life and something not to be missed!

I literally got swept away with the magical and breathtaking landscapes at the resort – as well as these spectacular panoramas just up the hill from the hotel.

Endless Instagrammable Spots

I’ve visited many different places but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such incredible views, delectable meals, or vivid sunsets (aside from the fabulous Atrium Hotels in Rhodes) all in one place.

Variety of Room Options

The hotel offers a multitude of room options, from double and superior rooms to a variety of suites and private pools.

We stayed in the Superior Sea View Double room with a private pool, which came complete with a gorgeous terrace overlooking the sea.

Private Personal Pools

I love the privacy and freedom that a private pool offers. Without a doubt we always spend most of the holiday splashing in the pool away from crowds.

Sumptuous Wining and Dining

From the awesome flavours of gourmet dishes, the simplicity of Cretan cuisine to the exotic recipes of authentic Chinese cooking, the resorts serves some absolutely fabulous meals. If you happen to stay at the property, I highly recommend trying all the restaurants out.

All guests with a minimum 7 days stay can enjoy a dinner for free in each of the “a la carte” restaurants.

Tip

Pre-book all the restaurants as your arrive in the resort. You can do it either using the Exclusivi App or via the Customer Relationship Team. Reservations are usually required 2 days at a minimum in advance and it’s for a good reason as they do get quickly booked up.

The Main Restaurant has a large patio overlooking the picturesque bay of Mononaftis where you can enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner from the abundant buffet.

A la carte “Kulinarium” Gourmet Restaurant

My favourite! The food is impeccable, fresh and crisp.

We particularly loved the prosciutto with goat cheese mousse, the salmon tartare with wakame salad, the pork fillet on potato gnocchi and the grilled veal tenderloin. To be able to enjoy a delicious meal steps away from the most amazing sea view, I think it was particularly enticing.

I definitely recommend trying the lobster dinner at the Kulinarium Restaurant (an extra charge of 59 Euros per person). If you have been following me for a while, you will know that I’m a huge foodie and so I love discovering any special food events – so the lobster dinner was a no-brainer!

Tip

All restaurants open at 7pm and if you arrive just a tad earlier you will get a fantastic table with the sea view. Watch a sunset and just take in the atmosphere!

Floating Breakfast Experience

My particular recommendation… book a floating breakfast.

Presented in a large heart-shaped tray, filled up with delicacies of your choice from fluffy pancakes to freshly cut seasonal fruits , coffee and even sparkling wine. It will definitely become the highlight of your stay!

Tip

Consider booking the breakfast around 10am. It’s not always the case but on most days in Crete the sky only cleared up late morning. Let things warm up a bit – the last thing you want is shaking in the pool as you bite into your pancake.

Chic Bars

In all inclusive bars there is a choice of local and international spirits, cocktails, long drinks, beer, local wines, coffees, teas, soft drinks and juices served from 10.00 till 23.00.

Note: not all the drinks on the list are all inclusive and some come with an extra charge.

The bar has fantastic service so you don’t have to worry – the drinks will be flowing all evening!

Tip

The bar gets quite busy in the evenings so make sure you get there early and certainly before the entertainment starts at 9.30pm to secure a table with a view.

The hotel offers an impressive variety of entertainment that you can explore at any time using their Exclusivi app. From an international dance show, movie quiz, karaoke night to a Greek Folklore Night and live music.

Activities

If you want to work up a sweat, the hotel has a great fitness centre as well as tennis and basketball courts.

Tip

I strongly recommend booking the SEA Cave Signtaure Ritual, 80 minutes of pure tranquillity including body peeling, a body and head massage, a body mask and more! I left the place totally pampered, recharged and super relaxed.

What a fantastic idea – all in one place at your finger tips! With this app you can keep an eye on the daily entertainment and fitness options, book restaurants, chat with Reception, book SPA treatments and much more.

On the contrary to some of my past experiences the chat with Reception App option works and service is super quick.

Few Improvement Suggestions

The resort is a truly wonderful place to stay and I highly recommend it. However, there were a few little things that I felt could be improved/implemented:

• No room service. I think this was the biggest disappointment. I absolutely love having a few meals in the privacy of my room without the need to dress up every single time I want to eat something.

• No cocktails and also wine by the glass option in the a la carte restaurants – just bottles.
• The Wine list is limited to a few Cretan options which are lovely but it would be nice to have a wider variety available.

• All inclusive options don’t extend to alcohol beverages in the a la carte restaurants and only the house wine option is available in the main restaurant. Since the a la carte restaurants are limited to just one visit per 7 days stay (3 nights at maximum) I can’t understand why further caveats are added around alcoholic beverages. It hardly meets the definition of ‘all inclusive’.

• The all inclusive choice of drinks is a little limited. I personally struggled to find a drink for myself and ended up having to pay extra for the premium drinks (e.g. special cocktails like espresso martini).
